On Reaching Home

I love to travel. I like seeing new places and trying new things. I like the break in routine that travel affords.

My mom always jokes that what she likes best about travel is arriving back home at the end of it all. I just got home today, and had to smile to myself at my mom's way of looking at it. It is true that there is a good feeling associated with coming home after a long journey. Your own shower, your own bed... it's hard to beat that feeling.

Perhaps that is part of what makes travel so valuable. Not only do you get to see the new and unfamiliar, but you also get to view the ordinary and mundane with refreshed eyes. And that's a good thing.

Always good to be home!

I'm not much for travel, myself, seeing things away from home is nice, but I just can't take all of my books and work with me without packing a lot of extra bags ;-)

Home looks different any time I return.

Is Shanghai getting through the typhoon okay?

Looks like things are going fine for Shanghai during the typhoon, Malcolm. I've been getting some regular text message updates from friends there, and it seems all is fine.

Merry, you are right about carry books. I guess I have a permanent bad shoulder as a result of my combined loves (books and travel). I do try to carry books that I don't plan to reread, and give them away as soon as I finish. I've found a nice Bookcrossing spot in Shanghai, where I often leave my books when I finish them, if none of my friends want them.
