The Marble Slab is one of my family's favorite spots to go for an outing. We were first introduced to it before we moved to League City, way back when I was 17 years old. That summer, I was chosen to go on an exchange program with the Rotary Club, and was going to spend 6 weeks in Singapore. It was all excitement, nerves, and planning for the big trip.

Joseph Heng, then owner of The Marble Slab, is a Singaporean, and the Rotarians suggested that my family went to meet with him. He showed us great hospitality, and chatted with us for some time, helping me prepare for what to expect when I got to Singapore. I am now living in Singapore, and have been for nearly 15 years.

But it isn't just the hospitality and friendliness of the owner that makes me like Marble Slab. It really is good ice cream and frozen yogurt. It's a spot my family still visits, and we often go together when I am home visiting my parents. In fact, we were there to celebrate a couple of years ago when my mom recovered from a rather scary sickness that landed her in the hospital. It is one of those comfort-food, feel-good spots we all like to go to.

You can find the Marble Slab and other local eateries at Merchant Circle, the online business directory and forum for business owners. There's Sudie's for seafood, or you can check out Esteban's if Mexican is more your thing. Those are some of the favorites amongst locals. From what the reviews on the site say, it seems Esteban's might be going downhill. I haven't been home in a year now, and so might be a little out of touch there. One of my family's other favorites is Celaya's over in Pearland. They used to have a branch in League City, but they closed it. We still drive over to Pearland to eat at Celaya's, though, and always enjoy it. It was the last place I shared a meal with my grandfather when I was last home, and he passed away earlier this year. That's going to be one of the great memories I keep with me for a long time.
